April 24, 7 PM - The Learned Owl Book Shop's Book Club in a Bar (location TBA)
The Learned Owl Book Club in a Bar will meet to discuss Talking to the Dead by Harry Bingham. Join us!

April 26, 11 AM - Author Mike Hooley at The Learned Owl Book Shop
The Learned Owl welcomes Mike Hooley, author of the children's story Penelope Skunk Has Junk in Her Trunk. Come meet the author and get a copy of this delightful story of Penelope, who also has junk in her closets, and on her shelves, and all over the house. She slowly realizes that there are more important things in life than all her junk in this heartwarming story of the importance of family.

April 27 & May 25, 12:15-1:15 PM - Teen Yoga at Yoga Lounge & Barre
Teens will learn the basic yoga poses, play with fun sequences, and build confidence in this class that is infused with upbeat music and self- exploration activities. No experience necessary. Ages 9-14.

April 27, 1-6 PM - Fundraising event at Green Roots Collection
Green Roots Collection is hosting a fund raising event to raise money for Blast Glioblastoma, a locally organized non-profit focused to raise awareness and funding for brain cancer research. 25% of sales on the 27th will be donated. For more info, check out their facebook page @ Blast GBM.

April 27, 2 PM - History Book Club at The Learned Owl Book Shop
The Learned Owl History Book Club will meet to discuss James Garfield. This group is open to all who are interested: Read any book on the topic and join us or just come to listen! There is no need to register. The book club meets monthly on the last Sunday of the month and the group chooses the topic together for the following month. In recognition of the 100th anniversary, our May topic will be WWI.

April 29, 6-9 PM - Prom Show at Molly Taylor Designs
The Prom Show will be hosted at our new shop to show off the latest Trends in Prom Florals! Our Custom Floral Corsages, Boutonnieres, Hair Pieces, Necklaces, and Bouquets will be on display! DJ Andrew Kern will be providing Music! A Fashion Show will show off Greenroots Collection and Winds of Change's beautiful clothing paired with our Floral Accessories! Lucia's... The Salon on Main will be modeling some awesome Prom Hair Styles! We will provide a Gourmet Popcorn Bar, Photo Booth, Games, and Raffles! All High Students and Parents are welcome! Even if you aren't attending prom this year, you don't want to miss this party!


May 2014:

May 1, 6-8 PM - First Thursday at the Shops at the Evaporator Works
The initial FIRST THURSDAY at the Shops at the Evaporator Works (51 South Main Street). Join us for an evening of shopping, live entertainment and refreshment. Get to know all the shop owners and see the revitalization of the historic Evaporator Works while enjoying a Martini Bar, Champagne, Chocolates, Wine tasting, and live entertainment (provided in cooperation with the Blue Rock Cafe).

Mondays & Thursdays in May beginning Thursday, May 1, 6-7:45 PM - May Wellness Challenge at Yoga Lounge & Barre
Yoga Lounge and Barre is teaming up with Vertical Runner for a spring running (walking) and yoga program during the month of May. All that is required is a class package at YLB; there is no additional cost for the program. Meet at 6 PM at Vertical Runner in Hudson for a run (walk) before the 6:45 PM yoga class at YLB! In addition, attend a yoga/barre class 4 times per week and attend 3 Saturday group sessions (May 3rd, May 17th, May 31st). Call or visit the YLB website for more details!

May 2, 6-8 PM - Candlelight Slow Burn at Yoga Lounge & Barre
Deepen your awareness and free your soul as we heat the body from the inside out. Sensual, mindful movement invites connection between body and breath while flowing in the soft glow of candlelight.

May 3, 9:30 AM-Noon - Illustrator and pop-up engineer Robert Sabuda at The Learned Owl Book Shop
We are excited to announce that Robert Sabuda, noted children's book illustrator and paper engineer/pop-up book creator, will be here on Saturday, May 3rd, to talk about his work. We will start the day with a limited-seating breakfast with the author at 9:30, followed by open signing from 10:30 to 12:00.

May 3, Noon - Kentucky Derby party at Peachtree Southern Kitchen
On Saturday, May 3rd stop down to Peachtree Southern Kitchen for the Kentucky Derby. The festivities will kick off at noon. There will be food and beverage specials all afternoon long. Mint Juleps will be the featured drink of the day. Snack on a "Kentucky Hot Brown", which is an open faced Turkey sandwich with Brown Gravy and Mashed Potatoes. There will be contests and prizes throughout the afternoon. Take part in the "Best Hat" competition. Horses for the big race will be raffelled off throughout the afternoon. May 3, 1:30-3:30 PM - Basics Workshop II at Yoga Lounge & Barre
Find freedom in your body and take your practice to the next level. This workshop will cover the importance of breath and how it can ease movement and transitions between difficult poses. This workshop is ideal for yogi's with three or more months of experience.

May 8, 1 PM - Author Gabrielle Zevin at The Learned Owl Book Shop
Gabrielle Zevin, author of The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, will visit for an informal meet & greet. (We're so excited! We love this book!)

May 10, 1 PM - Author Kristin Ohlson at The Learned Owl Book Shop
Join us at The Learned Owl as we welcome author Kristin Ohlson with her book The Soil Will Save Us. Start your planting season off with a fascinating read about the condition of farming and the environment and how we can all make a difference.

May 10, 1:30-2:30 PM - Baby and Me Yoga with Jennifer Fries at Yoga Lounge & Barre
During this workshop, we will explore ways to share your yoga practice with your infant through rigorous asana practice, stimulating baby exercises, and nourishing infant massage. Bring your baby and enjoy a fun, stress-free hour that will last long after class is over. Recommended for babies 2 weeks to one year old and their caregivers. Laughter, tears, nursing, and cuddles are welcomed! This workshop is $15; new mothers must be 6 weeks postpartum.

Irv Korman will visit The Learned Owl to talk about his new book I Was Jackie Mason's Chauffeur for 5 Minutes, in which he shares his encounters with celebrities, including the Smothers Brothers, Doc Severinsen, Frank Gorshin, Loni Anderson and George Carlin.

May 18, 5-7 PM - Spring Writing Workshop #2: Character Arcs and Development at The Learned Owl Book Shop

Join us as we welcome author Joe Murray, Kent State professor and pilot, with his book Lost in Oscar Hotel.

May 27 - Author Daniel James Brown at the Hudson Library
Author Daniel James Brown (The Boys in the Boat) will be giving a talk and signing books at the Hudson Library (time TBA). The Boys in the Boat is the irresistible, dramatic, and poignant story behind the triumph of the American rowing team that stunned the world at Hitler's Olympics. It's a terrific look at history as well as the personal story of the boys who made up the team. The book is currently available in hardcover, and will be released in paperback on May 27.
