The strength and flexibility you develop on the mat - namely in the core, quads, hamstrings, and hip flexors - can help you run more efficiently and stay injury-free. March 19-30 - Spring Break Window Scavenger Hunt
Members of the Merchants of Hudson present SPRING BREAK WINDOW SCAVENGER HUNT, March 19-30, 2015. Find one of EIGHT photos in the window of participating businesses and enter it on the form that will be provided. Drop completed form at Fair Trade on Main, 134 N. Main St., no later than March 31st for a chance to win one of two $25 gift cards. Forms will be made available at all participating businesses, or you can download one here.

March 31, 4-6 PM - Authors Aaron Reynolds and Trevor Pryce at The Learned Owl Book Shop
In conjunction with Hudson PTO Right to Read Week, March 30 through April 2, The Learned Owl is happy to welcome two children's book authors. Trevor Pryce (An Army of Frogs and The Rainbow Serpent) writes for 3rd-5th graders, and Aaron Reynolds (Here Comes Destructosaurus! and Creepy Carrots, a 2013 Caldecott honor book) writes for 1st and 2nd graders. Both authors will be at The Learned Owl Book Shop on Tuesday, March 31st, from 4-6 PM, and all of their fans are invited to meet the authors and get their books signed!


April 2015:

April 2, 7 PM - Author Mike Olszewski at the Hudson Library
Mike Olszewski, author of Cleveland TV Tales: Stories from the Golden Age of Local Television, and WKSU's Kabir Bhatia will take a time trip back to the days of Ghoulardi, Barnaby and Dorothy. These pioneers invented television before our eyes, and Olszewski and Bhatia will discuss the book and share clips from Cleveland's TV past. Copies of Cleveland TV Tales will be provided by The Learned Owl for purchase and signing. Registration is required for this free event. April 4, 1 PM - Liz Ferro, founder of Girls with Sole, at The Learned Owl Book Shop
Liz Ferro will be at The Learned Owl Book Shop to discuss her inspirational program and sell her book, Finish Line Feeling. Girls with Sole was founded in 2009 for pre-teen and teen females who need someone to believe in them so that they can believe in themselves. Many of the girls who participate in the program begin with little or no interest in moving their bodies and end the program by running anything from a 5K race to a triathlon. The program offers girls the opportunity to learn and enjoy fitness as they develop the physical and emotional strength needed to meet personal goals.

Sign up now for our Tulips 101: Design Workshop! Guests will learn how to design a lovely Spring arrangement using Tulips and Bulbs Flowers. Most flowers will be Locally Grown. April 9, 10 and 11 - Young Actors Studio presents Disney's Alice in Wonderland Jr.
Young Actors Studio students in grades 2-12 cordially invite you on a trip down the rabbit hole to experience the wacky world of Alice in Wonderland Jr. This lively musical is based on the classic tale from Disney, but contains twists and turns that the audience will love. Curious Alice will capture your attention as she meets the White Rabbit, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, a bubble blowing Caterpillar, and a crazy Cheshire Cat. After celebrating her unbirthday at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, she meets the Queen of Hearts and has to go on trial for winning a game of Simon Says. Let your imagination soar while you join us for this fun-filled production! Performance dates are April 9th, 10th, and 11th at 7 PM each evening with an additional matinee at 2 PM on the 11th. April 10, 5-8 PM - Second Friday Art Hop
2nd Friday Art Hops resume on April 10, 5-8 PM, at art studios, galleries and merchants in Hudson. With the April kick-off, visitors will have a chance to do a little artwork of their own on Friday night as they create individual parts for a larger sculpture that will be assembled and displayed in the front window of Hudson Fine Art & Framing. It's all part of a benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to be held the following evening at Hudson Fine Art & Framing.
Second Friday Art Hops are a collaborative effort designed to promote the arts in Hudson and support the work of studio artists and galleries. Artist studios and galleries in Hudson have teamed up with local businesses to host a regular monthly event for art lovers in the area. Visitors can tour working studios or art galleries in the downtown Hudson area. Peek inside an artist's studio and see firsthand the work that's being created in Hudson's expanding arts community. The studios and art galleries offer a wide variety of artwork: paintings, jewelry, watercolors, oil paintings, realistic work and abstract art. You can even catch live music around town. Many of the artists offer art classes and workshops and will be happy to tell you about them. Maps are available at participating studios and galleries.

April 11, 11 AM - Mini-poetry workshop for kids at The Learned Owl Book Shop
April is National Poetry Month, and this year we are going to read Otto, the Owl Who Loved Poetry on Saturday, April 11th, at 11 AM. In addition to reading this delightful story about an owl who recites poetry to his woodland friends, we will have a mini-poetry workshop for kids ages 6-9. April 11, 1-3 PM - Yoga and Writing Workshop at Yoga Lounge and Barre
Integrating writing and the practice of yoga makes for a beautiful and inspiring experience. Join Anne Brennan, an experienced journalist, writing coach, and yoga instructor for a workshop that will include both a relaxing yoga class and a writing workshop. Whether you have a memoir, a poem, or just want to exercise your creative side - this workshop will offer the tools, meditation, and fun writing exercises to explore your creativity. It is appropriate for all levels. Cost: $25

April 11, 1 PM - Author Vicki Merkiel at The Learned Owl Book Shop
Come meet local author Vicki Merkiel when she is here to sign her book Catch Me When I Fall, a young adult urban fantasy written under the pen name Vicki Leigh. The story follows a forever-seventeen-year-old named Daniel who is assigned to protect a clinically depressed patient in a psychiatric ward. The longer he keeps watch over Kayla, the more he realizes that someone who can control the dark side wants her dead.

April 11, 5:30-8:30 PM - Benefit for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at Hudson Fine Art and Framing Company
Hudson Fine Art and Framing Company is happy to be coordinating with Katy Dix Brahler who is hosting a special benefit at our gallery for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society/Man & Woman Of The Year 2015. The benefit will feature artwork from printer and painter, Amelia Hankin Cashin and potter, Tara Lynn Winslow. Amelia Hankin Cashin is a graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design and the Kyoto Seika University of Japan. She will be displaying her colored pencil drawings and silkscreen prints. From the April 11th event, 20% of the proceeds will go to LLS. Tara Lynn Winslow is a Kent State University graduate and will be displaying her pottery featuring her Norahkin Wave Collection.

Join us as we welcome and showcase local children's author Deanna Voso. She will be reading and signing her children's book Lily's Bows, about a little girl, inspired by Ms. Voso's niece Liliana, who loves to wear bows in her hair. All in attendance will receive their own brightly colored bow to take home with them!

April 25, 1 PM - Author Marlit Polsky at The Learned Owl Book Shop
Come meet Marlit Polsky and hear stories about her 16 years behind the cosmetic counter at Bloomingdale's in White Plains, New York. Her book is entitled Rouge Hags and will have you laughing out loud!

April 25, 2 PM - Author Gail Carson Levine at the Hudson Library
Gail Carson Levine's first book for children, Ella Enchanted, was selected as a Newbery Honor Book and later made into a feature film. She has also garnered praise for her bestsellers Ever and Fairest; Dave at Night, an ALA Notable Book and Best Book for Young Adults; six Princess Tales books; and many others. Her latest book, Stolen Magic, shares in the adventures of Elodie and the dragon detective Meenore. In addition to her children's chapter books, she has written two nonfiction books about writing and two children's storybooks.
